Benefiting from ARMA training: Naomi Bourke

Training and CPD at AM Surveying Property Services

Naomi Bourke | Administration

I began working at AM Surveying Property Services Ltd in August 2015. Although I had previous office and administration experience I had limited knowledge in the specifics of property management and building surveying and everything that entails. My lack of experience wasn’t a problem however, because shortly after joining the team I was booked onto an ARMA (Association of Residential Managing Agents) course designed for newcomers to Block Management. The course provided a very good overview of everything involved in residential property management, especially helping me to understand the roles and responsibilities of Managing Agents. This in turn allowed me to better fulfil my role as an administrator, and assist our team in providing excellent service to our clients, and leaseholders/residents of the buildings we manage. I attended the course along with my colleague Lauren Jermy, who also joined the company at a similar time to me. Each new member of staff is encouraged to attend this course.

Although AM Surveying is a modest sized family run company no expense is spared when it comes to the training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of our staff. The Directors are keen to ensure all members of the team are kept up to date with the latest guidelines and regulations in both Building Surveying and Block Management. For example, part of our Block Management service includes overseeing and handling the transfer of properties within or Block Management portfolio including providing Management Packs and responding to solicitors enquiries and this is an area I am heavily involved with.

Having expressed a desire to my manager to gain a better understanding of the procedures involved in Leasehold property transfers, later that very same day I was enrolled onto an ARMA course covering the relevant aspects of Property Transfers and Conveyancing. The course improved my knowledge and confidence in the complex procedures of property conveyancing greatly.

After making some in-house tweaks as a result of my training, our services in assisting solicitors during the conveyancing and property transfer process are much more streamlined, fully comprehensive and can be relied upon by Leaseholders of properties within our Block Management portfolio.
